Quarterdeck

The "quarterdeck" is the command deck on any space vessel.

It owes its use to early marketing material from Sanctuary Space Vehicles in the late 21st and early 22nd centuries.

SSV, later SVR, was attempting to tie the "sailing" of its space vehicles with that of 17th and 18th century sailing ships. As such, it adopted many out of date terms to refer to its ship such as the quarterdeck as opposed to the bridge and "starboard and larboard" instead of "starboard and port".

Since SSV was the largest vessel manufacturer at the time, the other space vehicle manufacturers picked up the language and used it as well.

By the time the NOVA Program came around, it was in such standard use that they used it to describe their CIC or Combat Information Center.
